Robynne Chutkan, MD, FASGE

Dr. Chutkan is the author of the bestselling digestive health books Gutbliss, The Microbiome Solution, and The Bloat Cure.

She received her bachelor’s degree from Yale University and her medical degree from Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York, where she also did her internship and residency and served as chief resident. She completed her fellowship in gastroenterology at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York. Dr. Chutkan has been on the faculty at Georgetown University Hospital since 1997. In 2004 she founded the Digestive Center for Women, an integrative gastroenterology practice incorporating nutritional optimization, exercise physiology, biofeedback, and stress reduction as part of the therapeutic approach to digestive disorders. In the last few years she has focused exclusively on diagnosing and treating microbial discord in the gut, and created the Digestive Center for Wellness to facilitate better patient access to microbiome education, testing and treatment.

A former Board member of the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE), Dr Chutkan also chaired the ASGE Training Committee and Public Relations Committee. She has authored dozens of journal articles and book chapters and has been a featured lecturer throughout the United States and Europe.

Dr Chutkan is a regular guest on the Dr. Oz Show covering digestive health, and is also a member of the Medical Advisory Board for the show. She was the host of the National Institutes of Health Clinical Roundtable Series and a medical consultant and on-air talent for Discovery Health Channel. She has been a featured expert on The Today Show, CBS This Morning, and The Doctors. She is frequently interviewed as a medical expert for the Washington Post and women’s health magazines and has been consistently named one of the area’s best doctors by Washingtonian magazine. She is an avid marathon runner and yogi, and is passionate about helping her patients live not just longer, but better lives.

Leslie Ann Berg, MSPH
Chief of Operations


Leslie Ann received her BA from the University of Notre Dame and has a Master’s degree in Public Health and Nutrition from Johns Hopkins University. With over a decade of experience working in the health and wellness field as a nutritionist, certified yoga teacher, personal trainer, health writer, and project manager, she oversees operations as well as the strategic mission of the Digestive Center for Wellness. Leslie Ann is an avid believer in integrative methods to treat and heal the body.

Kimberly Hasenberg
Digestive Center for Wellness Health Coach


Kimberly is an integrative nutrition health coach, certified by The Institute of Integrative Nutrition. She completed her BA at Catholic University and received her Digestive Center for Wellness microbiome coach certification in 2014. Specializing in digestive and microbial health, Kimberly has worked with and trained under Dr. Chutkan and also has an extensive background in executive coaching. She has seen firsthand how transforming your gut can transform your life.

Emily Perlman, LCPC, BCB, SMC-C
Biofeedback Practitioner


Emily is a biofeedback therapist and psychotherapist. She has completed two master of science degrees; one from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the other in mental health counseling from Walden University. Emily began her 35-year career working in the field of mental health at Walter Reed Army Medical Center and at George Washington University. She incorporated biofeedback into her practice 17 years ago and has since expanded her areas of expertise to include heart rate variability (HRV) biofeedback for stress-related illness and surface electromyography (sEMG) for pain management. Individually, or in combination, these types of biofeedback can be highly effective for clients with autonomic nervous system hyperarousal, gastrointestinal issues, hypertension, migraines, and other chronic disorders. Ms. Perlman is a licensed clinical professional counselor in the state of Maryland, is BCIA certified and holds a certification as a stress management consultant.

Gabrielle Gear
Digestive Center for Wellness Research Intern


Gabrielle received her BS from The University of Michigan and a graduate certificate in Advanced Biomedical Sciences from George Mason University. She is currently working on her MS in Physiology and Biophysics at Georgetown in anticipation of applying to medical school. As a Bikram yoga instructor and avid student of the health sciences, Gabrielle is passionate about supporting patients on their journey towards gut bliss.
