Dr. Chutkan is the author of the bestselling digestive health books Gutbliss, The Microbiome Solution, and The Bloat Cure.
She received her bachelor’s degree from Yale University and her medical degree from Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York, where she also did her internship and residency and served as chief resident. She completed her fellowship in gastroenterology at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York. Dr. Chutkan has been on the faculty at Georgetown University Hospital since 1997. In 2004 she founded the Digestive Center for Wellness, an integrative gastroenterology practice incorporating microbial optimization and nutritional therapy as part of the therapeutic approach to digestive disorders.
A former Board member of the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE), Dr Chutkan also chaired the ASGE Training Committee and Public Relations Committee. She has authored dozens of journal articles and book chapters and has been a featured lecturer throughout the United States and Europe.
Dr Chutkan is a regular guest on the Dr. Oz Show covering digestive health, and is also a member of the Medical Advisory Board for the show. She was the host of the National Institutes of Health Clinical Roundtable Series and a medical consultant and on-air talent for Discovery Health Channel. She has been a featured expert on The Today Show, CBS This Morning, and The Doctors. She is frequently interviewed as a medical expert for the Washington Post and women’s health magazines and has been consistently named one of the area’s best doctors by Washingtonian magazine. She is an avid marathon runner and yogi, and is passionate about helping her patients live not just longer, but better lives.
Leslie Ann received her BA from the University of Notre Dame and has a Master’s degree in Public Health and Nutrition from Johns Hopkins University. With over a decade of experience working in the health and wellness field as a nutritionist, certified yoga teacher, personal trainer, health writer, and project manager, she oversees operations as well as the strategic mission of the Digestive Center for Wellness. Leslie Ann is an avid believer in integrative methods to treat and heal the body.
Samira Rezahi graduated from Montgomery College in Rockville, MD and is a Maryland Board Certified Nursing Assistant. Specializing in customer relationship management, Samira has 7 years of experience in the medical field. She is the office manager at the Digestive Center for Wellness and oversees all patient relations and initiatives. Samira holds patient satisfaction to the highest degree and is an avid believer in an integrative approach to healing the body.
Jillian is a second year medical student at Howard University College of Medicine passionate about health and wellness and has a B.S. in chemical engineering from Columbia University. Prior to medical school, Jillian worked as a healthcare consultant in New York City, specializing in international healthcare development projects in emerging markets. Jillian is the DCW Medical Intern where she assists in conducting research, writing articles for Gutbliss Rx, and helping the overall team as needed. She is a classically trained flautist, avid yogi, and world traveler. She plans to pursue Gastroenterology as her medical speciality.
